Somatics [Learning Pathway]

Somatics are useful both for healing and moving through trauma, and for self-inquiry and as a kind of cross-training for other movement modalities. Works like The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk have convincingly argued that traumatic experiences have a constrictive effect, not only in the mind, but in the body, and therefore therapies that address these traumas must incorporate the body. On the other hand, athletes, dancers, yoga asana practitioners, martial artists, and really any movers can also benefit from increased body awareness, both to prevent injury, and to tap into their true potential as movers.
